A classic pool light series, the Pentair IntelliBrite is very popular in North America for pool or spa lighting. You can see people raving about this product in many places, but of course there are also a lot of people complaining that the IntelliBrite is too expensive. If you are struggling with the high replacement cost of IntelliBrite, then congratulations you have come to the right place. This article will detail some of the options for replacing IntelliBrite, including using an OEM product or a third-party product with a more cost-effective replacement.
In the past, Pentair’s pool lights, such as the Amerlite, used replaceable halogen bulbs, but today, LED technology is becoming more popular in lighting products such as the GloBrite, IntelliBrite, and MicroBrite, which use circuit boards with integrated LED chips instead of replaceable halogen bulbs.
There is no doubt that there are many benefits to using LEDs over halogen lights, such as energy savings, long life and high light efficiency. However, most models of LED pool lights vary greatly in terms of internal circuit boards and external diameters, which can make repairing or replacing them a big hassle. But don’t worry, we have shared three replacement methods from which you can choose the most suitable one.
The IntelliBrite 5G used for pools is a first generation product that is about 10 inches in diameter and it sells for over $800 for a single light. If the circuit board inside the light is damaged after the warranty expires, this larger size IntelliBrite 5G can cost $600-$700 even to replace just the circuit board.
The smaller IntelliBrite 5G (6-inch) for SPAs also has a circuit board inside, but Pentair doesn’t sell it separately, and you’d have to replace the entire light directly.
The IntelliBrite Architectural is the second generation and is already available in 2023. The bad news is that it uses a completely new design for the circuit board inside and is not compatible with the IntelliBrite 5G.The good news is that the IntelliBrite Architectural is still compatible with the niches of the IntelliBrite 5G.The IntelliBrite Architectura sells for the same price as the IntelliBrite Architectura is close to the same price as IntelliBrite 5G and is also very expensive.
Finding non-original replacements will cost you extra time, but it’s worth it. Many replacements tend to have lower prices as well as higher lumens compared to the OEM products for the IntelliBrite 5G.
IntelliBrite 5G has been on the market for many years and is now discontinued.IntelliBrite Architectural does not have any other brand of replacement boards on the market at this time as it has just been released (2023).
If you are using an IntelliBrite 5G and the sealing is still good, you may want to consider purchasing a third party board as the least expensive alternative. In the case of IntelliBrite Architectural, this blog was written in 2024 and all IntelliBrite Architectural sold are still under warranty.

Another option is to purchase pool light replacements that fit the original niches. This will add an additional cost, but is still significantly cheaper than purchasing an OEM product directly.IntelliBrite Architectural is compatible with IntelliBrite 5G niches. Therefore, if either the IntelliBrite 5G or the IntelliBrite Architectural is damaged, it can be replaced with the same replacement.
